SNAP and Pet Paradise Book Drives Start Today!!!

WookieBooks Book Drive Goes into Overdrive
Second Book Drive Scheduled for January in Houston and San Antonio
WookieBooks pays SNAP 30 percent for YOUR used books!

SNAP and Wookiebooks are once again working together, this time with the great folks at Pet Paradise, to raise funds for spay-neuter. A second book drive has been scheduled for the last week in January. (Various Pet Paradise and SNAP clinic locations in San Antonio and Houston will participate. See the January 2012 issue of SNAPtales for exact dates and locations at www.snapus.org/site/News2?page=NewsArticle&id=7595#FS-8)

The October event was a huge success. Thousands of books were collected at the SNAP clinics in Houston and San Antonio, and WookieBooks was on hand to haul them off to their processing center. There the company sorts the books for distribution. Some of the books are sold online (with SNAP receiving 30 percent) while others go to literacy programs, homeless shelters, and community centers.

If you’re more in the mood to buy books than to get rid of them, you can shop the WookieBooks online selection at its Amazon store, its Alibris store, or its eBay shop.

WookieBooks is a for-profit social enterprise that harnesses the power of e-commerce by collecting and selling used books and media items online to support literacy and animal rescue initiatives, all the while saving hundreds of thousands of these items from the landfill. According to its website, the people at WookieBooks "strongly feel that books and media items possess knowledge that should live on, long after they have lived with you."

WookieBooks accepts hardbacks and paperbacks of all genres. They also accept textbooks (preferably no more than five years old and with ISBN numbers); certification study guides; technical, medical, and law texts; pre-recorded VHS tapes (preferably in new condition); and DVDs and CDs (in original cases with all artwork--no burned copies). When it comes to fiction, DVDs, and CDs, they especially like obscure titles! WookieBooks asks that you do not donate damaged (warped or moldy) books, academic journals, literary criticism, encyclopedias, magazines, periodicals, condensed books, activity books, or Harlequin romances.!

Month Long Book Drive for Frisky Paws Rescue Starting January 7!

Perfect timing!!! Frisky Paws Rescue will be hosting a month long Book Drive. Doesn't get any better than that!

This gives you plenty of time to make good on your New Years Resolution to clean out your closets and de-clutter!

We all know cleaning closets, garages, bookcases and attics are overwhelming, not fun and usually not high on the "honey-do" list. So, just target one area in your home, clean it out and donate your new and used Books, CDs, DVDs and VHS tapes to Frisky Paws Rescue. Then tackle the next area, donate and so forth until your entire house/apt is done.

Those good folks at Frisky Paws will be accepting donations from January 7th - February 7th, so come as many times as you want and donate as much as you can.

If your donations are too large or maybe you are clearing out an estate, WookieBooks can pick-up! Just let us know how many boxes and we'll send the right size truck over.

Together, let's have a great book drive so we can raise a bunch of money for Frisky Paws to save more lives!

To donate books, CDs, DVDs and VHS, please contact Sonora at 713-928-2751 sonorahud@earthlink.net.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Wishing you a Happy and Prosperous 2012!

I welcomed in the New Year safe and sound in my house! See my lovely party tutu! A girl can never have too many tutus!

I know folks like to celebrate with fireworks but they make me so nervous that I pace inside my house! My mommy (who loves me very much) knows I am a nervous nelly around loud noises, so she kept coming to get me to go back to bed.

That was awfully nice because she was super sick and I kept pacing until the wee hours of the morning. Now we are both very sleepy!

All that pacing did help me think of my #1 New Years Resolution. It's not a traditional resolution in which you give up a certain behavior for a time or stop it all together, (although my mommy would say I could give up pacing in the middle of the night), but my resolution is MORE!

Rescue MORE animals! Save MORE books from landfills! Make MORE $ for my charity partners! Host MORE book drives! Meet MORE organizations that need my help! Make MORE friends that bring me treats at Christmas!

Wait, disregard that last one, that was completely selfish. Well, if you happened to have the treats already bought, then it is OK, but don't make a special trip to the store, wrap them in Christmas paper and put them in my mailbox. I mean that's asking WAY TO MUCH and totally selfish!

I digress. Resolutions. Whether you make them or not, shoot for MORE!
